The 80/20 Rule!

Have you ever been in the work place or somewhere that there was a ton of work to be done but you felt as though people around you were not pulling their load or share of the work? Happens to many of us that do NOT mind a bit of hard work and labor. Why is that? When asked to help a friend move (which nobody likes to move) there is always someone that says "sure I will help" but then when they are there they are no where to be found? Hmmmmm.....They can take credit for helping out and they do....Post on face book "helped so n so move yesterday" Well I have come across this many times like many of you have as well. It pays no mind to complain about this or these types. It gets us no where in life and just not worth the effort of worrying about others and they way they slack off.  Hence......The 80/20 rule!

The rule is simple.....20 percent of us will do 80 percent of the work.......here is the kicker we make 80 percent of the money. I can write about many examples of this rule.....It is in every industry, every professional sport and on and on. There will always be 20 percent doing 80 percent. For me and (I hope you as well) life is not always about the money but more a sense of accomplishment. Knowing where "as a person"  we stand in life, as individuals. For many of us it does not matter what others think but more about how we think and live our daily life. Where will that bring us someday?

I noted in an earlier post that in regards to Varolo roughly of all the people who come on board in your down line about 20 percent give or take will be active and hopefully excited to succeed.

Stay focused and be one of those 20 percent or better yet in the top 5 percent. Stay active and email those you can and offer help to all who ask. Be approachable to everyone (we are a family) and never forget that. As each day passes (some good some not so good) keep the faith in yourself! Remember you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink but getting him across the rough terrain.....there in lyes the challenge.

We can jump in a lake and start to swim, get half way across, decide it is too far, turn and swim back.

Varolo Launch Contest – Win 500 villagers!

Varolo Launch Contest – Win 500 villagers!

We would like to announce a new contest beginning March 15th, 2011 and ending the day before our launch on April 16th, 2011.  For the next month, you can earn chances to win 500 villagers.  That is right, 500 villagers can be added to your village on top of whatever your village size is today.  In fact 10 lucky Varolo users will win villages of 500!

How to qualify
It is simple, each new Varolo villager that you register between March 15th and April 16th will count as a single entry.  But it isn’t just about signing people up in Varolo.  These users must also confirm their account, login and watch a full week of ads (all 140) to qualify as an entry for you.  While some people might feel this is unfair as other users behavior isn’t in their control, there are some that may try to register additional accounts themselves.  We should state that we have systems that can detect this behavior and if detected, you will not only be disqualified from the contest, but you may also be banned from Varolo.  Advertisers are paying for unique, legitimate users in the system and we want to maintain the integrity of Varolo.  In addition to your new villagers watching all of their ads, you must also watch all of your ads each week to qualify.  You must also agree to the jackpot contest rules (if you haven’t already with the regular jackpot the system will prompt you to when you login).  We want these villages of 500 users to go to very loyal and dedicated Varolo villagers.
Now if you sponsor someone within the final week (where they can’t get 140 ad views), they must confirm their account and watch at least 20 ads/day for each day they are subscribed for them to count as an entry.
For example, if you find 20 people that register for Varolo, and they all confirm their accounts, login, and watch at least 1 full week of ads (140 ads), you will have 20 chances to win one of the 10 villages of 500.
Now imagine this….  What if you register 20 people and each of them find 10 people to register…. that by itself grew your village by 200.  Then lets say that of those 200 users, 2 of them win villages of 500.  Your village would grow by an additional 1000 villagers because they are in your village!  It is the same as the splash up but with villages.  Imagine how large your village could grow in the next 30 days.
Now, lets answer a few questions that are obviously on your mind…

Where do the villagers come from?
There is a method for users to register in Varolo without a sponsor.  This is primarily for those users that heard about Varolo through an Internet search or some other method that didn’t include a direct sponsor.  We call these villagers “orphans” as they don’t have a sponsor or “parent” in the system.  Since our public beta began we have over 5000 orphans in the system.  In other words, over 5000 people have registered without a sponsor.  So we thought we would break them down into groups of 500 and give them away!  This has absolutely no negative impact on the orphans themselves.  In fact, when there are orphans in the system, it means fewer people are making money because they aren’t part of another village.  For example, if you are an orphan and you are watching your ads, no one is earning money from that because you aren’t sponsored.  In other words, orphans earn money for Varolo instead of other users.  We want users to benefit from each other.  So by being put in another person’s village, other people can benefit from you and your village.  It maximizes the earnings for everyone, which is what we want.

Can an orphan win a village of 500?
Of course.  Anyone that sponsors users and follows the contest rules above has a chance to win a village of 500.

Can someone win more than once and get more than 500 villagers?
No.  We are only allowing one village of 500 to be won by each of 10 people.

What if the new villages you win aren’t active and therefore don’t benefit me in the future?
This is important.  We at Varolo do not have any control over the activity rate of these Varolo users.  Statistically there will be some that are very active, others less active, and many that are not active at all.  We don’t have any control over these and we make no guarantees regarding the activity level or potential earnings from having these users.  Some of these users may never use their account again while others will use it daily while still others might come back in a few months and begin using it then.  We simply make no promises regarding the “quality” of these villagers.  But, this is in fact the reason we selected groups of 500 be given away.  Because if nothing else, even if every single user you win never uses Varolo again, this will still allow you to gain your final achievement and unlock your 5th degree of separation for additional earnings in the future.  We are sure each village of 500 will have many inactive users but we also believe that over time, as Varolo grows in popularity, many of these users will begin using Varolo again and benefit you at that time.

What happens when any of those 500 villagers sponsor people in the future?
Any and all villagers sponsored by these 500 people in the future will go into your village, including all those they invite, and they invite, etc, all the way up to your 5th degree of separation.  We hope this jump-starts the villages of many hard working and loyal Varolo members!

What if an orphan has already built a village?
We aren’t giving away 500 orphans.  We are giving away villages of 500.  In other words if one of these orphans has build a village of 200, that would be 200 of the total 500 that would be given away.  We make no promises or guarantees that all users will go on your first degree.  They could be anywhere in your village.  This is because we will maintain the integrity of the villages that orphans have built to date.  An orphan may get moved to someone else’s village but any village they have created moves with them.  That village is part of the 500 that would benefit the winner.  Again, this has no negative ramification on the orphan or their village at all.

What about those people that didn’t want a sponsor that are now getting one?
While we don’t quite understand why people wouldn’t want a sponsor, there are some people that do not want to be part of someone else’s village.  Unfortunately for them, this is not how Varolo works.  Varolo is a system where when everyone participates and tries to help each other, we can all be successful.  Creating a “silo” and attempting to create your own Varolo world of which you are on top just isn’t the culture we want to have.  We want everyone to want to help everyone else.  We want everyone to have a sponsor that can be traced back to the first Varolo person (we call her “Eve”).  We want people to have large villages and make money and help others build large villages.  We have always maintained the right to assign people to a village even if they register without a sponsor.  That is what we will be doing with the Varolo launch contest.  We hope everyone understands the logic.

How many entries can I earn?
As long as you follow the requirements listed above and in the contest rules as well as abide by the Varolo terms of service, there is no limit to the number of entries any user can earn.

What if I get someone to register but they either don’t confirm their account or don’t watch their ads?
Then this user would not qualify as an entry toward your chance to win a village of 500

Keep On Keepin On!

No Real Secret

Many have been asking me what avenues I have taken to grow my village. Other than the obvious sources like social media ie face book, myspace and twitter (and many more) I have spent time running ads on Craigs List. This has been somewhat time consuming but has been working for me and others.

Here are some heads up warnings with Craigs List that myself and others have ran into.....

CL does track your IP address (as most if not all sites do) once you have created an account with them. (I suggest you create an account on CL)  Eventually your ads will be what is called "ghosted" (Once you post your ad it is invisible) This begins to happen a lot with the more ads you place. (James and I are talking about more blogs regarding "Ghosting") Also you must change up your ads as CL does not allow the same ad to be placed in Miami and also in say New York. So you must be creative with your ads as well. And in the larger cities CL charges a per ad placement fee so you have to find other categories on CL to place them where you feel they will be effective and get you signups.

So now that I have told you about the negatives by posting on CL what can be done about it and how?

After wearing out my welcome with the first account I had and all of my ads (or the majority of them) were getting ghosted I started another account. After I wore that account out I started a third account. However, this did not help because I was using these accounts from my home which was the same IP address.

To open an account with CL you will need a different email address for each account and also a different phone number. (CL sends a code to your phone you will need to confirm your account) For each account a different phone number is needed. <-----FYI

When I left home I took my lap top with me and when I could log onto another IP (Coffee shop, McDonalds, library etc) and I placed some ads. By doing this my ads did not get ghosted and placed just fine.

Now, I am not sure how you came across Varolo or how you signed up. But, one thing those of us using CL for signups have found is that it a total numbers game. Meaning......If I sign up 10 people then I would be lucky to find one person that is excited and see's the opportunities in front of them. When I sold cars I had to talk to X amount of people...Demo X amount of cars to those people in order to get one sale.....The same goes with Varolo.....So sign up a million people and have 25% of them working for you. I think you get the point.

Many from CL do not activate their link in their email nor do they become active with the site. This leads me back to James' spread sheet. If you plug into his spread sheet all of your signups then it will show you what you could or should be making on a monthly basis ....However there are variables....How many are actually active and working the system? By getting signups from CL you can figure that you will get roughly about 22% to be active in your village. (Based on my average in my village)

James reminded me of something I have talked about before.....Every new signup you get in your first tier you should email them right away. I have emailed them and so has James. Every one of them gets a welcome email congratulating them for signing up. The majority do not respond but no big deal....We are looking for YOU!!!  The jewel....Needle in the haystack so to speak! Again don't forget that this is a numbers game. Find the people who see the forest through the tree's and you will  end up growing. Offer to help them. James and I have put out a proposal to them by asking them for their personal signup link. We posted ads for the people in our first tier to help them get started.

I offered this proposal:

In a nutshell I said I will help them get 20 signups and  in return for their participation with Varolo I asked them to send out the welcome letter to all of the new signups. I also asked them to  log on each day and watch their commercials. The bottom line is I have some fantastic people in my downline.

Spend some extra time, reach out to those you sign up, let them know you are there to support them and you are excited! Get them pumped up about reaching their goals and stay focused. For you, as their sponsor I suggest you answer emails and IM's with quick response (if you can) and see Varolo as a huge future for yourself and the people you sign up. Keep this in mind.....We are a family!

I realize this may seem like a lot of work but you do not have to go to the same degree as me and a few others I know who are posting on CL as well but, I highly recommend opening an account on CL, post 10 ads and just let them run for a couple of weeks. You will have a percentage of them get flagged but that is just the nature of the beast. Last Tuesday late afternoon (the 8th) I posted 25 ads. Out of those 9 were flagged and 5 ghosted leaving 11 good ads running. Since the 8th through this morning I have gotten 109 new signups and I am still getting a trickle effect from those ads. So as you can see a little bit of your time spent placing ads on CL has a solid benefit. Even though there are some road blocks with CL it is worth it.

Below are copies of a couple ads I ran last week...Keep in mind you need to put in your personal link to Varolo at the bottom of the ads.

Before I go I just ran into something that I want to add to this post. A couple of weeks ago I went to Cabelas web site as I wanted to get a new spring catalog. (I love to fish see my pics on face book) anyways, it just came in the mail this afternoon. I took a break from writing this blog and started looking through it....Here is what I found on the inside cover of the first page.

Varolo In Your Daily Life........"The LiL Red Engine"

There are so many different topics I would like to discuss with all of you that I have had a tough time deciding which one should be next. Well, like a kid in a candy store trying to make up one's mind I decided to go with how to fit Varolo growth into your daily routine and life. When starting out we are super excited and it seems that our efforts (when we are excited with something fresh and new) do not seem like a chore but moreover it is FUN! After a few days, a week, or a couple of weeks do you begin to lose interest? I believe we all do at some point and this happens because of many different reasons. I will go out on a limb and say the main reason we lose interest is due to the fact that with all of the time we are spending on Varolo trying to get new sign ups, watching commercials we are NOT seeing a return on our investment (our time) or ROI. For instance I made $1.02 the first week and a half (I started in a mid week on a Wed.) This in turn can begin to weigh in the back of our minds. Asking ourselves questions such as "Is this really worth it"? "What else can I be doing with my time"? And of course there are many more like this that start to float through our thoughts. So what happens when these type of thoughts start to consume us? We begin to believe these thoughts. Moreover we become negative and start to look for other opportunities. Or we just surf Facebook (or other sites) and waste our time. To me these thoughts & questions are a negative way of thinking. I think you get the point so let's move on. What can we do about this and make sure it does not happen? How do WE stay motivated? What can we do about this to make sure it does not happen?

I can only use my own experiences as examples and you will have to decide what will work for you. As I mentioned in my previous blog that I spent the better of almost my first 20 years in the business world in the automotive industry. I started selling cars at the age of 19. (Right out of high school basically) I found I had a talent for it but at that age I had no clue as to what it was that set me above the rest. "Why was I doing well"? What was it that drove me"? "Why did I enjoy it so much"? Well it took me years to answer those questions and learn who I was, what I stood for as a person, and what it was that drove me to do better. In the car business we can easily find ourselves with negative thoughts. We can go on a spell of not being able to sell a car, or close a deal. And it begins......The negative thoughts we discussed above. Quite frankly it happened to me, a lot when I was young in the business. There was zero continuity to my sales. It was like a roller coaster. Going way up in the air and then going down at 200 mph. It drove me nuts! No consistency whatsoever. I read book after book, I tried to learn different techniques, I did what I thouught was everything I could do to try and be consistent. Nothing worked! Until it hit me! Goal setting! Yes that's right it was goal setting! I know we all have heard about setting goals (Long and short term) and if you are like I was years ago it went in one ear and out the other. What I did was I made an income goal for a 12 month period (a year). Then I broke it down by dividing it by the 12 months for an average per. I took it another step and divided the amount of cars I needed to sell by the average monthly income to reach the annual goal. I took it even further and broke everything down to the rediculous but I think your seeing the point. In a nutshell I had a formula to keep my sanity and stay more consistent. I new exactly to the penny how much commission I had to make on a per car basis in order to make my annual income goal. When I had a down month I did not let the negative thoughts consume me. I kept my eyes on the annual goal. As time went by I found myself excited to work every day. It was like a game to me and being competitive I wanted to WIN! I take the same approach with Varolo and it is working for me and can for you as well.

I signed up with Varolo exactly 2 weeks ago today. I currently have 269 in my village. How has this growth happened? Goal setting!!!! Keeping negative thoughts out and looking at Varolo as a long term venture for myself. By not looking for instant gratification (I could write an entire blog on that one) and asking myself questions. Most importantly "What do I want to get from Varolo"? Yes we all want the pot at the end of the rainbow today but also we know that that is not reality. When someone or a group decide to start a new business (A restaurant, retail store, etc) they have to have a business plan. This plan is a snap shot of the goals of the business and what the potential is and how long it will take to get there. Varolo is the same for you. Maybe of course not on that scale to begin with but overall it is just like that. Early on with Varolo it is not a reality to set income producing short or long term goals. Reasons being we do not have the variables needed to break down the income. ie how much advertisers are bidding for spots, how many advertisers are bidding, how often they want their commercial to run, and so on. But, we can and do have control over growth in other ways. Hence our village growth. Let's take mine as an example:  We can get an average of daily signups by simply dividing the total in my village by the number of days I have been with Varolo. Simple math says that average is 19.2 new signups daily. 269/14 = 19.2 per day. Okay this raises questions and the first is "can I average this as a realistic number over the period of a year"? Actually this is a difficult one to answer for the simple fact we don't have enough information from variables such as and mainly not knowing if we will get lucky and signup someone that takes off and gets excited, grows their village. (We all hope we find one of these jewels) So, at this point just keep it simple. Write down how many you would like to see in your village one year from now based soley on your time and efforts. Just your efforts and yours alone. Divide that nuumber by 12 (Months) or better yet by 365 to get your daily average you need to hit your goal by the end of that one year. Keep it simple and obtainable. For the fact that you will more than likely exceed your goal in one year because you are not including what the people you sign up will do for you. Now ask yourself how much time per day you need to devote to obtaining your daily goal. Write it down. Post it notes work great btw. Now you are keeping your sanity and staying focused and motiviated. Make it a daily habit, sit down, spend that amount of time you think you need to in order to get your daily signups. I think 3 a day is a realistic number. This will not occupy your entire day and probably take you an hour of fucused attention on the computer or phone. You wake the next day and see you got 5 signups. You do the same thing and spend one hour and wake the next day and you have 2 more. 7 in two days is 3.5 per. Your ahead of your goal and what the main key is the fact that however you are going about getting these signups, IT IS WORKING.....YAY!!!!!

In a summary:

Make your goals and make them realistic.
Write them down and keep them in front of you.
Keep the sanity and keep out negative thoughts.
Stay focused and make it a habit.
Adjust accordingly.
And most of all....Make it a fun game for yourself.

In my next post I am pondering the thought of  writing about the "How to obtain our goals" What avenues will work for getting our daily goal of signups. What seems to be working and what doesn't. How much time per day should you be spending on reaching these goals etc.

Of course this is subject to change because as I speak with many of you on a daily basis I may run into a subject that may be of more importance. One never knows!

Keep in mind what works for you may not work for me but doing something is better than doing nothing at all. I would rather have $1 in my pocket then $0

Don't forget that Varolo will be announcing big news in a few weeks and I am stoked with the changes coming.

Once again I ask that you show some love and PLEASE leave comments. They are so important to help me to help you.

Don't Let The Game Play You! Play The Game!

Yesterday flew by for me like it didn't even exist. With all of the attention I have received in regards to winning this weeks Varolo jackpot and the comments I have gotten has been a bit overwhelming but well enjoyed.

Now, I have only been with Varolo since a week ago Wednesday and over the past week or so I have done quite a bit of searching online to find anything I could good or bad about Varolo. (We all have some skepticism in us) And through all of the posts, blogs and forums I have found there is one thing that keeps itching at me. I keep seeing comments from different people around the country saying they think this is a waste of their time with the fact that they are currently only making pennies per day or week. I keep thinking to myself "What is their thought process"? Maybe my mind works differently but do most people go through life with the blinders on so they can only see straight ahead? (Like the horses at a race track) Does Varolo really state that you will make a million dollars over night? I haven't heard that in any of the videos or read any of that in the help section or the blog section personally. One has to have the foresight (or atleast I believe so) to see things in a larger scope. The bigger picture. The forest thru the trees. Okay you get the point. So, to me it was somewhat surprising that many do not want to stay motivated, see the possibilities and the potential the future can hold for them if they put in the work today for an easier tomorrow. This is NOT a get rich overnight scheme whatsoever. If I make a dollar this week what will be that amount 1 year from now if I continue to put in the same efforts of building my village every day? $100 a week? $500? Well no one can truly guess that without some fancy computer program where you can input all the variables and click a button and it spews out some print out with the facts. Well I doubt that would really be that accurate too but, I do believe with hard work each and every day for one solid year a person can then begin to enjoy the fruits of their time and labor. I guess I truly have to remind myself of the 80/20 rule. Do you know this or have you heard of it before? It goes like this......20 percent of the people do 80 percent of the work and make 80 percent of the MONEY!!!!!  I learned this long ago when I was in the automotive industry. I started selling cars at the ripe green age of 19. Loved it for many years and pushed myself to be the best I could until I was in the top 10% in the country for new Ford sales. We all know what happened right? Recession!!!!! Gas Prices! GM in bankruptcy and on and on...Thus here I sit taking the same preservering approach to Varolo. Make it happen! Work Hard! Push yourself Richard!  My thoughts in my head of course.

The moral here is do not get discouraged. Keep pushing yourself every day. And even harder on the days you feel lazy. Heck, we all have those days. When your new sign ups have slowed considerably do not have a pity party. Keep pushing! Period! Push yourself some more. Varolo and your sign ups are going to be cyclical. When I sold cars if I went a few days without a sale I could not get down on myself. I had to keep finding new customers and talking to more people. Varolo is the same, it is a numbers game. The more you sign up the better chance you have of finding a jewel in your first tier that is excited and takes off and within no time that person has cracked you into your 4th tier. Keep signing them up and find more who do the same and a year from now you will sit back, pat yourself on the back and crack a cold one with a smile.

Misc Jottings:

Within the next 3 to 5 weeks per my conversation with Mr. Prince yesterday he said that Varolo is going to be rolling out some new exciting features for you and also has some more exciting news as well. Again, I am sworn to secrecy but from what he mentioned to me this is going to be fantastic and awesome and I cannot wait.

Many times today I was messaged by other members of Varolo asking to pick my brain as to what I have been doing to grow my village, how to keep the downline people excited and many other topics. Thus, I have decided at a minimum of once per week I will post here on my blog the techniques I have been using and how some things have worked and some not so good. Stay tuned more on this later.

There is no I in Team. We have all heard this before and I must admit it holds very true here with Varolo. Taking a moment to thank James Richards (My Sponsor) for his insights and allowing me to bounce idaes off of him. Between the two of us we have worked together collectively and have put together some solid strategies for building our villages. I will also post here weekly the ways we have gone about this and how those ideas put into action have built our villages in less then 2 weeks to over 1200 combined. Again, more on this later so please stay tuned.

I will also be speaking to you about goal setting with Varolo. It helps to keep the sanity....More on this also in future blogs.

And lastly (as I am sure your bored as all get up now) to offer me a helping hand and some love by taking a moment before you leave my page to click on a couple of the ads on the right or bottom of the page. I would truly appreciate it and it will come back to you ten fold for taking a minute to click it...Hey that rhymes with the TV show.

All in all I want to thank you all once again for all the great comments today and the love you have all shown.

Have a super night and I hope you enjoyed the read. Please leave comments as it not only helps me it helps all of us.

Keep On Keepin On!

Richard Thole is Varolo's Week 4 Jackpot Winner

This weeks jackpot winner is Richard Thole of Coon Rapids, MN.  This is what Richard said:

Yesterday around 6:30 pm I signed into my email and was scanning through the new emails and I almost fell off my chair when I noticed an email stating I won this weeks jackpot…I was like no way! With all the people here on Varolo (Some 54,000+) I never thought I would win. It was only a minute or 2 after I read that that my cell phone rang, 800#…Should I answer? Good thing I did and low and behold it was Mr. Kevin Prince. Yes that’s correct! I ended up having a 20 minute or so conversation with him. This morning I am still taken aback that Mr. Prince called. I have been in sales and sales management for 20+ years and the one thing that has always been a common denominator is doing the little things (like a simple phone call) to help build relationships.

I want to take a moment and thank Varolo and the opportunity they are providing all of us that can see the forest through the trees. I have been excited ever since I signed up with Varolo less than two weeks ago. My village is growing daily and currently sits at 238.

I have done a few things to grow at that rate in less than two weeks. I have written and posted a blog.

I intend to repost weekly on this blog with ideas and tips to help others grow their village. Also, I connected this blog in two different apps to my Face Book page.

One of the most important things I have done (well actually two things) is to send a welcome email via the Varolo email to every new person who signs up in my village. I offer them help, try and get them excited and offer them my regular email address so they can contact me with any questions or ideas. Secondly, I offered help to anyone on my 1st tier. Meaning, I offered to help them get their village started. By doing so it has helped me get my 2nd tier off the ground which in turn broke open my 3rd and 4th tiers respectively.
I have also sent out an email saying Follow me on Twitter.
http://twitter.com/#!/Offthehook67
This allows me to make tweets that keep those in my village and following me excited and up to date. I also added an RSS feed from Twitter to my blog.
And of course there is Face Book

After speaking with Mr. Prince last night I want to leave you with this: In the next 3-5 weeks there is some very EXCITING changes coming with Varolo for all of us to use and succeed.
I am sworn to secrecy!
